Beacon of Hops

May is ALS Awareness Month and we’ve been working on something special for it. In collaboration with our friends at Lamplighter Brewing Company and Ales for ALS, we’re helping raise awareness around ALS, and proving support to help end the fight. Together we created Beacon of Hops, a trilogy of hazy beers using the Ales for ALS hop blends.

We set out with this shared mission to create three hazy, hopped up beers to benefit research towards discovering treatment for people living with ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease. ALS is an issue that hits close to home for the Lamplighter team. And at Sam, we’ve been working with the folks from Ales for ALS and participating in the program for years. Our hope is that by coming together, we can make a larger impact as a team.Beacon of Hops w pint

This year, Ales for ALS provided breweries with the option of two different hop blends. As we sat down to discuss our collaboration, we quickly became too tempted to just choose one. And so we started building our trilogy.

At the Samuel Adams Boston Brewery, we used one hop blend to craft a New England-style IPA that’s hazy in the glass, but bright to the taste. It has notes of cantaloupe, grapefruit, and lemon.

Lamplighter ran with the other hop blend to brew a hazy Pale Ale that had a fresh peach aroma and easily sessionablility.

Finally, the Samuel Adams Boston Taproom used both hop blends to brew a powerful, juicy Double New England IPA.

Beacon of Hops was brewed to bring us one step closer to a cure. A portion of the proceeds from each draft, 4-pack, crowler, and specialty glass sold will be donated to the ALS Therapy Development Institute.
